Belmont Village Named Diabetes Center of Excellence

Exercise

Belmont Village is designated as a Diabetes Center of Excellence through a specialized training program sponsored by Lifescan, a division of Johnson & Johnson, and Edgepark Medical Supplies. Diabetes care has always been a priority for us.  With a licensed nurse onsite 24/7 at every Belmont Village community, we can effectively and consistently monitor blood glucose levels, manage medications and administer sliding scale treatments.  Our participation in the Lifescan program allows us to take that care to a higher level.  Our Personal Assistance Liaisons (PALs) have been trained to recognize and report the signs and symptoms of diabetes to aid in early detection. And our nurses have received specialized training about the disease and preventive measures, making them valuable resources for residents and their families.

Know the facts.

Diabetes cases in the United States have increased in recent years, and those most affected are the elderly.  According to the Center for Disease Control, almost 25% of the population 60 years and older has diabetes, putting them at higher risk for serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure and vision loss.  Early detection and accurate monitoring are key, as are a healthy diet and lifestyle.
