American Heroes:
Portraits of Service
As you might have read in the Spring 2009 issue of The Cupola, Belmont Village is proudly involved in an American Heroes photography project. This is part of a very special initiative to honor our own veterans and others who have served. Belmont Village has commissioned photographer Thomas Sanders to capture the images and stories of our veteran residents across the country. Opening receptions will be held at select communities during 2009, to showcase the new, permanent galleries of resident photos.
Sanders first visited Belmont’s Hollywood community to photograph our resident veterans as a part of his larger personal project, or as he calls it, his mission to capture the stories of WWII veterans, both in America and abroad. During the first three years of the project, he photographed more than 100 WWII veterans, and has now captured the images and stories of hundreds more, thanks to a commission from Belmont Village to photograph our veteran residents across the country.
