Speaker: Dr. Jann Mackey
Dr. Mackey is an architectural historian, focusing on historic houses and buildings in Dallas, as well as British country houses. She is a frequent lecturer in SMU’s Continuing and Professional Education programs, as well as for local historic preservation organizations, libraries, and community groups.

With the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quickly approaching, it’s an exciting time for Britain’s royal family, but the idea of an American marrying into the British aristocracy is not a new one. After the American Civil War, many wealthy American socialites crossed the Atlantic to find husbands among the English nobility, trading dollars for titles. Please join Dr. Jann Mackey as she explores the stories of several notable American heiresses who gained a title as well as a husband.
