Belmont Village Gerontologist Beverly Sanborn Presents at 2016 AAIC

Beverly Sanborn, LCSW, Belmont Village Senior Living gerontologist and vice president of program development, presented at the prestigious Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) held July 24-28 in Toronto, Canada. The AAIC is the world’s largest forum for presentation and discussion of the latest Alzheimer’s and dementia research and brings together approximately 4,500 leading experts and researchers from nearly 70 countries around the world. Sanborn joined a panel of experts to discuss the improvements in dementia care practice and presented the results from a comprehensive program evaluation that tracked the effects of Belmont Village’s award-winning Circle of Friends®, a proprietary whole brain fitness program for residents with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early stage dementia. The program evaluation model was developed in collaboration with Vanderbilt University’s Center for Quality Aging and takes a quantitative measure of resident apathy. Apathy, or lack of interest, is a very common and significant problem in patients with dementia and is linked to accelerated physical or mental decline.

At the first-ever Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures (CIHF) roundtable, which took place in April at Cornell University, a group of 29 senior-level executives, educators and other leaders connected to the senior housing and care industry discussed hospitality, design and health management, and how all three intersect and relate to senior living.
