“Forty years ago, I decided to learn to square dance and I have not stopped dancing since! It was in 1973 when a neighbor shared that she lost 35-pounds square dancing. My husband wanted to lose weight so we gave it a try. He eventually lost interest but that didn’t stop me. I continued to dance as a substitute partner when other ladies were absent and learned the male role too. The health benefits of dancing have been amazing, which I think is the biggest factor in staying fit. My doctor tells me that dancing has kept me young. And, with the combined mental challenges that square dancing requires, it keeps my brain in shape as well. I may be 84-years old but I don’t look it, I don’t act it and I don’t feel it.”
