“I voluntarily enlisted at 17 because I figured if more men and women enlisted it would help the war effort and hopefully get it over sooner. My brother Francis was already fighting in the Pacific. I am grateful for serving my country and for the ability to return home with my brother. All we wanted to do was find someone to marry, forget about the war and return to a calm life.”
