Every year on June 19, Americans celebrate freedom and equal rights for all—the foundation of our company and country today. Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States and its roots, like our own, lie in Texas. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger led thousands of Federal troops to Galveston to announce that both the Civil War and slavery had come to an end. Juneteenth serves as an opportunity to learn more about African American heritage and the history that has shaped our country. We are reminded as a nation and a company of the importance of strengthening equality in every aspect of life. As we remember this historic day, let us also take time to reflect on what we can do as individuals to support this core value.
