The moniker “retirement home food” may send chills up and down the spines of most people, but Belmont Village Senior Living Lakeway isn’t your average grandparents’ retirement community and neither is its food.
At Belmont Village’s signature restaurant Josephine’s Kitchen, residents and their guests enjoy three delicious chef-prepared meals with more than 24 daily menu choices. Each dish is made from scratch, prepared daily on-site using only the freshest ingredients sourced from local vendors whenever possible. Each day, the menu also features three rotating specials: a fish of the day, a pasta of the day, and a chef’s special as well as rotating seasonal soups and desserts.
A handful of local media and influencers enjoyed a special preview of Josephine’s Kitchen at Belmont Village Lakeway at a tasting event on Sept. 6 before the restaurant and community formally opened. Attendees sipped cocktails, beer, and wine and were treated to a delectable array of culinary delights from the community’s critically acclaimed Chef Miguel Ortiz and his team.
The tasty bite-sized dishes included filet mignon with crab and asparagus, savory cheesecake bites, yellow heirloom tomato bruschetta, salmon mousse with spinach and dill, miniature Ahi tacos, and baby walnut cones. Guests also enjoyed tours of the new community, and mingled with the chef and dining team leadership members.
All meals are served restaurant-style by Belmont’s outstanding, courteous dining staff. Belmont Village Lakeway also has a signature Josephine’s Bistro for snacks, coffee, and tea with friends throughout the day and between meals. Heart healthy dining options are available on each menu, and the expert chefs at Josephine’s Kitchen are able to accommodate residents with special diets.
“You know, for all of us, eating and dining is an important part of the day. And for seniors, it can be the most important part. That’s why we go above and beyond to make sure every meal our residents have is special, nutritious, and delicious. No exceptions,” Chef Miguel says.
During his 17-year tenure as chef, Miguel has had the pleasure of cooking for numerous celebrities including Sir Paul McCartney, Carlos Santana, Tom Cruise, and Mike Tyson. He has also received numerous workplace awards, culinary accolades, and glowing magazine and newspaper reviews.
A big part of Belmont’s strategy is incorporating hospitality industry-style services so residents have access to the same amenities they had before moving into the community. For example, Belmont Village’s staffers set tables with nice ceramic plates, glassware, flatware, linen cloths, and fresh flowers for each meal.
“It’s the small things like that and the extra effort we put into our work that makes all the difference in the world,” says Chef Miguel.
