Belmont Village residents volunteer with students to give back

Belmont Village Senior Living West Lake Hills welcomed dozens of students from Westlake High School into their community on April 27, 2018 for the eighth annual “Senior Service Day.” The residents worked side by side with the high school seniors and volunteered their time working on various ongoing charitable projects together.

A few of the philanthropic activities the seniors and senior high school students worked on included making tube-sock toiletry kits for the homeless, writing get well cards for patients at Dell Children’s Medical Center, and tying soft fleece blankets for a local shelter.

Service to others is at the heart of everything Belmont Village Senior Living does. Belmont Village West Lake Hills residents have selflessly worked on two major ongoing charitable projects over the past three years: making blankets for SafePlace and toiletry kits for Mobile Loaves & Fishes.

“We’re committed to changing our little corner of the world and beyond–one blanket, one toiletry kit, and one get well card at a time,” says Donna Herman, executive director of Belmont Village West Lake Hills.

“However, we haven’t done this alone. Family members and others in the community—like the service-oriented senior students at Westlake High School—have partnered with us to make and collect donations for those less fortunate, and to help with the assembly and delivery,” Herman says.

To date, Belmont Village West Lake Hills has tied and donated more than 50 fleece blankets; stuffed and delivered more than 120 tube-sock toiletry kits; and collected and washed dozens upon dozens of used pill bottles.
