Portrait Series at Chicago Airports Honors Local Veterans

As seen on Chicago Tonight

Photographer Thomas Sanders has made it his life’s mission to share the stories of veterans across the country.

His work is currently on display at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport in “American Heroes: Portraits of Service.” The show recognizes senior veterans and shares stories of their wartime experiences.

“What’s so great about the exhibitions at Chicago Midway and O’Hare is that there’s just people that are traveling and walking through the hallways, and there’s real American living history that they can learn about,” Sanders said.

Featured on a wall of portraits are two local veterans: 101-year-old WWII veteran Myron Petrakis and Korean War veteran Richard Nelson.
