Belmont Village Artist Stories Gerrish

Ann Shewman Gerrish

Painter
Belmont Village Glenview – Chicago

“Artistic creativity has been part of my life since I began sewing clothes at age 12. From the needlepoint and sewing to the painting that I still do. My inspiration was my grandfather who was a watercolorist. I still treasure the two paintings of his that I own. I began to paint landscapes at age twenty-nine while staying in a cabin in the Black Hills of South Dakota. My most memorable artistic moment came when I won Best of Show for a waterfall scene that I have since given to one of my sons. I have also won First Place at the Watertown, S.D., Winter Art Contest for my painting of a winter farm scene. Today, my main outlet is needlework and an occasional sewing project, and I continue to love the creativity of the arts activities here at Belmont Village.”
