Everyday habits, meaningful relationships, and the right level of support can support the process of aging well. We support healthy aging at Belmont Village through a thoughtful blend of wellness programming, clinical expertise, and purposeful engagement, helping residents live with dignity.
What Does It Mean to Age Well?
When people think about aging well, they often picture staying physically active or eating nutritious meals. Those are important pieces of the puzzle. But aging well is about much more than “just” that. It also includes emotional well-being, cognitive strength, social connection, and access to high-quality healthcare support.
At Belmont Village, we view aging as a holistic process. It’s a process we support through medication management, nutritious dining, fitness classes, cognitive training, and much more. These pillars of support are informed by our collaborations with leading institutions such as UCLA, Vanderbilt, USC, UC San Diego, and the University of Texas.
In short, to us, “aging well” means having the support to remain independent as long as possible, while also knowing that additional care is available. It means feeling safe, respected, and connected.
Supporting Healthy Habits at Belmont Village
Healthy aging is built on consistent, everyday habits and pillars like the following.
Physical Activity
Plenty of research shows just how important regular exercise is to aging well. With the right blend of strength, balance, and cardio training (all tailored to individual needs and abilities), older adults can improve balance, build muscle mass, and maintain bone density. These, in turn, can help seniors reduce their risk of falls, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). They can also help older adults manage their risk of health problems like heart disease or high blood pressure, according to the National Institute on Aging (NIA).
At Belmont Village, we know just how important physical activity is not just for feeling healthy, but for feeling powerful and energized. It is why we offer professionally managed fitness centers and on-site physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Group classes, balance training, and structured exercise sessions help residents stay active in ways that are both safe and enjoyable.
Social Connections
Connection is one of the most powerful tools for healthy aging. Research shows that social connections can improve mood, reduce the risk of mental health conditions, and support immune function.
At Belmont Village, social connection happens naturally throughout the day. Shared meals, fitness classes, lectures, volunteer projects, and informal gatherings create regular opportunities for meaningful interaction. These daily moments of connection contribute to a vibrant and engaged lifestyle.
A Sense of Purpose
A sense of purpose is a key component of the overall quality of life. Feeling that your life has meaning fosters positive attitudes, resilience, and mental well-being. Belmont Village communities encourage that sense of purpose through volunteer efforts, intergenerational programs, and resident-led activities.
Mental Stimulation
Brains benefit from exercise just like muscles do; engaging in mentally stimulating activities can help support brain health over time. To better support cognitive function, we offer research-informed cognitive programming that we tailor to each and every resident’s needs.
Mental Health Support
Emotional well-being is central to healthy aging. Regular social interaction helps reduce stress and stimulate the release of chemicals in the brain that promote a sense of calmness and connection.
Relaxation practices, group discussions, spiritual programming, and resilience-building initiatives like Raise Your Resilience support mental well-being for our residents.
Healthy Eating
Nutrition supports both physical and cognitive health. Belmont Village offers chef-prepared meals with a full menu of nutritional choices that support heart and brain health while also offering ample opportunities for social engagement.
Daily Assistance
Having the right type of support that adapts as needs change is a key part of what makes senior care at Belmont Village different. It’s why we offer:
- Licensed nurses and caregivers on site 24/7
- Transportation to regular check-ups and personal outings
- Proactive nurse assessments to identify concerns early and manage chronic disease, helping to reduce avoidable hospital visits
Together, these pillars of support allow older people in our communities to maintain independence while feeling confident that help is available.
Senior-focused Wellness Programming
In addition to daily lifestyle habits, Belmont Village offers structured programs tailored to specific cognitive needs to further support residents in their healthy aging journeys.
Circle of Friends®
We helped design Circle of Friends® for residents living with mild cognitive impairment, including mild to moderate memory loss. Residents participate in a structured, seven-day-a-week schedule of small-group activities focused on building cognitive reserve and maintaining engagement.
Importantly, Circle of Friends® is designed for individuals who need additional support but do not require a secure setting, allowing residents to remain integrated within the broader community.
Alzheimer’s and Memory Care Neighborhood
People living with Alzheimer’s disease or another type of memory impairment require a more secure environment than some of our other residents. We offer just that at our dedicated memory care neighborhoods.
Each resident receives an individualized plan that focuses on preserving dignity, happiness, and overall health. Specially trained staff oversee each resident’s progress, and we work closely with couples to ensure they can stay together, even when their needs differ.
Redefining Healthy Aging Every Day
A single habit or milestone does not define healthy aging. We shape it each day with the choices we make, the company we keep, and the environment we live in.
At Belmont Village, aging well means living each day with dignity and the reassurance that you are supported in mind, body, and spirit.
